Maulana Fakhir Mian- A Happy Blend of Sufism & Islamic Shariah
Lucknow is a historic city in so many ways. Everywhere people like to know about the charming aspects of this city. Lot has been written and still prospects of writing are remaining.
In the midst of Nakhas and Chowk there is a place known as FIRANGI MAHAL which has its own history with reference to the Islamic study and education of Muslim Shariah established by Mulla Nizamuddin in the early 18th Century at the age of 25 years. He was a great scholar who set an outstanding syllabus of Islamic education which was largely accepted and followed by all prestigious institution of the World. It is known as DARS-E-NIZAMI. His son Mulla Bahrul-uloom expanded what his father established Mulla Nizamuddin was a blend of Mysticism and Worldly knowledge. Since then this way of life has been continued and Fakhir Mian was a link to such a great order. He was the direct descendent of Mulla Nizamuddin.
Last week Maulana Fakhir Mian left for his heavenly abode. Lucknow saw a crowd of thousands of people in the precession of his body. Where everyone had a passion to see the face of the departing spring which caused absorption of the colour of humanity in the sprit of large number of men and women. The event became memorable for Lucknowites.
With his mildness of behaviour, with his heart full of human feeling with similarity in his external and internal personality Fakhir Mian performed his duties well throughout his life and conferred favour to those who came to him worried and sad. Generally in the morning hours he sat on the pious seat of his ancestors and gave chits of paper upon which Quranic verses were written and so he was supplying the wants of restless hearts. That way he helped Muslims and Non-Muslims equally because Sufis always realize that integration among the religions is the basis of the humanity and humanity is always supreme. Maulana was a picture of National integration. He always urged people to worship Devine Self wholeheartedly for that is the only way to get inner satisfaction. He himself had eagerness and fondness for worship. With all commitments outside he was always responsible person for his family discharging his duties there as well. Humility was a part of his nature. Met people with always smile of his face and softness in his tone.
It was highly surprising that a moment before the death of his father he was a fashionable man, consuming Cigar and changing the models of cars but responsibility to act as the spiritual vicegerent of his father in no time he turned into a Maulana and a spiritual guide which was a matter of awe to so many. Since then he was guiding the devotees of his order in right way. Benefiting and blessing people became his routine.
Maulana Fakhir Mian lived in Old Lucknow and apparently adopted the salient features of Lucknowi Tehzib which when commingled with his conduct of Life made him adorable. He spoke very little but always effective in which one could feel sympathetic vibrations. His stirring deeds and noble services will remain always fresh in the hearts of the people.
Those who came to attend the last rituals where unmoved and looked as if decided to stay till last moment without caring cold weather and delay in performance of rites. It was the collective sorrow and personal grief of all who came in touch with him.
Maulana Fakhir Mian left behind his wife two married daughters and a very learned son who is an Arabic scholar Maulana Hasan Mian presently a professor in the esteemed DARUL-ULOOM NADWA, LUCKNOW and making best use of his knowledge which he attained from this very institution. It is hoped that he will brighten the name of his family and FIRANGI MAHAL.
