Aaye wo mere saamne aur deed hans pade
mafhoom apna dekh ke tauhaaed hans pade
[Appeared before my eyes that
perfect beauty,
And laughed in affirmation upon
its oneness]
Ilmo adab pe bolna aasaan nahin magar
wo bolte hain log ki tanqeed hand hans pade
[It is not easy to speak on
knowledge and literature,
Yet some connoisseurs speak on
which sense of criticism simple laugh]
Ab tak to sirf chand hua hai bahare husn
Ban aaftaab subha jaga eid hans pade
[Oh! Till now only new moon
appeared on horizon,
Be sun, awake morning, so that festivity
of Eid may laugh in glee]
Baton men uski sirf mohabbat se hai gurez
samjhe jo hum ki kya hai ye tamheed, hans pade
[What beloved talks is nothing
but avoidance of love,
When apprehended the prelude I laughed]
Mere suroore wasl se hai aasman pe kaif
zohra kabhi hanse kabhi naheed hans pade
[On my ecstasy even sky is exhilarated,
And planets are overjoyed and
laughed]
tehraye rasme ishq ko jaiz wo yun suhail
uske har aik lufz pe taeed hans pade
[The sweetheart declares love
voidable,
But I laughed over each and every
word uttered]
